Wolfsburg Sporting Director Pirmin Schwegler has disclosed the team’s high expectation of new signing Jonas Adjetey.
The Ghanaian defender joined the German side from F.C. Basel on a four-year deal on transfer deadline day.
Speaking after signing the Black Stars defender, Schwegler said, “at Basel, he proved himself both in the league and internationally over the past three and a half years.”
“We have high hopes for Jonas [Adjetey] and are convinced that he will strengthen our team immediately.”
Monday’s transfer brings to an end, Adjetey’s Swiss adventure where he made 58 appearances in three years and six months.
He is expected to bring stability to a Wolfsburg defense that has conceded 42 goals in just 20 matches, averaging over two goals per game.
Wolfsburg’s situation is further exacerbated by an injury crisis. Greek defender Konstantinos Koulierakis and Denis Vavro, who have featured regularly, are all out with varying degrees of injury.
Jenson Seelt, whom they signed on loan from Sunderland, has a knee problem, while new signing Cleiton is also out with an ankle injury.
On transfer deadline day, the club signed two new center backs: Jonas Adjetey from FC Basel for €10 million and Jeanuël Belocian on loan from Bayer Leverkusen.
