Voting has officially begun in the Ayawaso East parliamentary primary of the ruling National Democratic Congress, with five candidates contesting to represent the party in the March 3, 2026 by-election.

The seat became vacant following the death of MP Naser Toure.

The contest, taking place at the Nima Cluster of Schools, is seen as crucial given the NDC’s dominance in the constituency.

Hajia Amina Adam, widow of the late MP, Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, and Dr Yakubu Azindow are widely tipped as frontrunners, with Hajia Amina expected to benefit from significant sympathy votes.

The Ghana Police Service is handling security while the Electoral Commission supervises the polls.

Polling trends from Global Info Analytics show Hajia Amina Adam commanding 58% voter preference among delegates surveyed, positioning her as the favourite to clinch the party’s ticket.

The other candidates on the ballot include Mohammed Ramne and Najib Mohammed Sani, both emphasising continuity and community development as part of their campaigns.
