Abdul Karim Zito has revealed that Asante Kotoko tried to talk him out of his decision to step down as the club's head coach, but his decision had already made.
The Ghana Premier League side announced that Zito had resigned as the club's gaffer on Monday evening a day after their elimination from the MTN FA Cup.
Zito took charge of the Porcupine Warriors in April last year and guided them to FA Cup glory at the end of the season.
However, the club's rollercoaster season in the 2025/26 season, coupled with internal issues, raised questions about the coach's future with Zito deciding to step down from his role.
He says the club was not pleased with his decision to leave them in course of the season.
"It became a family issue, and we had to talk it out and find an amicable solution. In the end, we all agreed that I should leave," he said on Asempa FM.
"They did their best to change my mind, but my mind was already made up. I am a legend of the club, and if an issue arises, you need to remain calm and talk things out. I have resigned.
I have been on the job for barely a year, and I won four trophies. I am very happy about it."
Kotoko has already announced the club will be under the guidance of assistant coaches Prince Osei Yaw and Hamza Obeng for their upcoming league game against Hearts of Oak.
