President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring Ghana’s economy, assuring citizens that the government remains focused on reversing current economic challenges and putting the country back on a path of growth and development.
Delivering his second State of the Nation Address since returning to office in Parliament on Friday, February 27, the President acknowledged the difficulties confronting the nation but stressed that his government is fully committed to delivering economic recovery and relief for Ghanaians.
“I was clear from the outset that recovery will not come easily, but I was equally clear that I will stop at nothing to turn this situation around and bring relief to Ghanaians,” President Mahama said.
He highlighted that his experience in leadership and managing past national challenges gives him confidence that Ghana can overcome its current difficulties.
“I promised that just as I have overcome challenges in the past, I will reset our economy and return us to a path of growth, progress and development,” he added.
The SONA forms part of the President’s constitutional duty to update Parliament and the nation on the state of affairs, while outlining policy priorities for the year ahead.
President Mahama’s address touched on key sectors, including the economy, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and energy, with special emphasis on measures to stabilise inflation, improve revenue mobilisation, and create jobs.
Proceedings began with a ceremonial inspection before the President entered the Chamber of Parliament amid tight security, attended by Members of Parliament, senior government officials, and other stakeholders.
The speech comes at a time of heightened public interest in the government’s economic recovery agenda and rising expectations for tangible improvements in the daily lives of Ghanaians.
