President John Dramani Mahama has held bilateral discussions with President Lee Jae Myung of South Korea, reaffirming the longstanding partnership between Ghana and the Asian nation.
The meeting highlighted the shared democratic values and historic ties that continue to underpin relations between the two countries.

Key agreements signed
The talks culminated in the signing of three Memoranda of Understanding aimed at strengthening cooperation in maritime security, climate change, and digital technology.

The agreements are expected to deepen collaboration and create new opportunities for joint initiatives between Ghana and South Korea.

Shared values on global stage
President Mahama noted that the two countries share a history of overcoming colonial rule and authoritarian governance to build strong democratic institutions.

He said these shared values have enabled Ghana and South Korea to work closely in international forums, including the United Nations, where they often advance similar positions on global issues.

Boost for agriculture cooperation
The Ghanaian President also highlighted growing collaboration in agriculture and agribusiness, particularly through programmes supported by the Korea International Cooperation Agency.

These initiatives are helping to expand rice production and improve food security in Ghana.

Gateway to African trade
President Mahama further pointed to opportunities for deeper economic partnership through the African Continental Free Trade Area, whose Secretariat is located in Accra.

He said Ghana’s position within the continental market offers South Korean businesses a strategic platform for production and exports across Africa.

Outlook for a stronger partnership
The President expressed optimism that Ghana’s natural and human resources, combined with South Korea’s technological innovation, will continue to drive a mutually beneficial partnership focused on sustainable growth and shared prosperity.
