The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing the Tema Motorway expansion project by August 2027, in line with President John Dramani Mahama’s infrastructure timeline.

During an inspection of the motorway on Tuesday, March 31, Mr Agbodza described the project timeline as critical and urged contractors to remain focused and proactive in addressing potential challenges.

He encouraged project managers to promptly notify authorities of any issues that could affect progress, to allow for timely intervention.

“So far, the President’s commitment is to give opportunities to Ghanaian contractors,” he said, stressing that the project reflects government’s policy of promoting local participation in major infrastructure delivery.

According to him, the quality of work being executed by local contractors matches international standards, dismissing perceptions that foreign firms necessarily deliver superior results.

“What we are seeing is that Ghanaian contractors are delivering work comparable to any from Germany, Britain or China,” he noted.

Mr Agbodza added that prioritising local firms helps retain economic value within the country while creating opportunities for skills development and capacity building.

He expressed satisfaction with the progress of work, indicating that there are currently no concerns about quality.

“The work meets global standards, and we are confident in the ability of our local contractors to deliver,” he stated.
