A seven member Jury of the Wa High Court has found 43-year-old man guilty of murder.
The accused Andrews Bayor Yuoni was said to have butchered Jonas Kwame Yeleliere at Daffiama for cutting down branches of a mango tree on a disputed land.
According to the prosecution, Assistant State Attorney, Saeed Abdul Shakur the gory incident happened on 31st May 2013, at about 10 am at Daffiama in the Upper West Region.
The accused person saw Jonas Kwame Yeleliere, now deceased, cutting down branches of a mango tree on a disputed land at Daffiama with an axe and confronted him with a cutlass.
They first exchanged words but things got worse and a fight ensued. The accused person butchered Jonas Kwame Yeleliere to death.
A report was made to the police resulting in the arrest and prosecution of Bayor Yuoni.
In court however, the suspect pleaded not guilty to the charge of murder.
During the hearing, the prosecution called four witnesses whilst the accused person testified in person and called one other witness.
In his testimony the accused told the court that he returned from farm only to find the deceased cutting down branches of a tree on his compound.
He said when he inquired from the deceased why he was cutting down the tree, he became furious, attacked and threatened to kill him with the axe he was holding.
He said the deceased inflicted cutlass wounds on him and in self defence he reacted leading to the death of Yeleliere.
After arguements from the accused and defence, the jury handed a unanimous guilty verdict to the accused person.
Following that pronouncement from the Jury, the supervising High Court Judge, Justice Kwasi Boakye then sentenced the accused person to death by hanging.
