After two cell breaks in less than a month, the Inspector General of Police Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan is expected to be hauled before the Defense and Interior Committee of Parliament to answer questions about slack security in prison cells.
Deputy ranking Member on the Defense and Interior Committee of parliament, Major Derick Oduro revealed the planned move to Joy News.
“The situation where those under confinement are escaping is a great source of worry…everybody is raising eyebrows,” he lamented.
Major Derick Oduro said his committee will wait for police investigations to be concluded and after, invite the IGP Mohammed Alhassan to the committee.
There is a massive manhunt for two inmates who broke cells bars in the Ahafo Anor North District of the Ashanti Region.
The two have been identified as a 26-year old Ernest Owusu Afram who is in jail for defrauding by false pretense and 39-year old Nyame Shadrack involved in robbery.
They used some tools smuggled into the cells to painstakingly cut through metal bars and bolted, ACP Kofi Dumfuour told Joy News.
12 hours after the incident, police are yet to make any arrests, leaving the community in fear.
The District Security Council is expected to meet on Wednesday to review a police report on the escape.
The professionalism of the police officers, under whose watch the criminals bolted, have been called into question.
Two of their colleagues in Denu in the Volta Region, who also suffered the ignominy of having suspected criminals escape under their watch last March, have been interdicted.
Last month, seven prisoners broke out of a police cell in the Volta Region and made away with 2 AK 47 rifles and 50 rounds of ammunition.
Three of the jailbreakers have since been re-arrested.
