One of the two persons who broke out of a prison cell at Tepa in the Ashanti Region, Tuesday, is planning to travel to Dubai, Joy News is learning.
The Police have therefore issued an alert to all officials at the country's entry and exit points to be on the lookout for Ernest Owusu Afram.
Owusu Afram, a student nurse is one of two suspected criminals who broke out of the Tepa Cell Tuesday dawn. He was accused of taking various sums of money from unsuspecting persons under the guise of helping them procure admissions into nursing schools.
The other suspect, a driver, Shadrach Nyame, 39, stole a vehicle belonging to his employer. They were both arrested and kept at the Tepa cell pending prosecution.
However, the suspects smuggled a hacksaw blade into the cell, which they utilised in cutting through the iron bars to provide an opening for their exit.
Two police officers were said to be on duty prior to the cell break.
According to the Ashanti Regional Police PRO ASP Mohammed Tanko, the two officers heard an alarm from someone about the cell break but it was a little too late. They mounted a chase but were unable to re-arrest the suspects.
He said the police are themselves surprised about the circumstances that led to the escape.
It is the second successful jailbreak in two months after the Denu jailbreak. The Kumasi Central Prison episode fortunately proved unsuccessful.
The Ashanti Region police have begun investigations to unravel the mystery surrounding the Tepa cell break.
The Ahafo Ano Divisional Police Commander ACP Kofi Dwumfuor Berchie told Luv FM's Erastus Asare Donkor those in charge have been given ten days to produce the two suspects.
He also confirmed receiving information that one of the suspects may be travelling to Dubai and said the Police have alerted port officials to be on the alert.
