Two Ghanaians accused of conspiring with a Bolivian national to smuggle 5,880 kg of cocaine into the country have been remanded in Police custody by an Accra Circuit Court.
The first accused, Alexander Kofi Baah is a businessman and a farmer who lives at Adentan in Accra while the second accused, Shahad Iddrisu was an officer of the Customs Divsion of the Ghana Revenue Authority(GRA) and now a businessman.
According to the charge sheet, the 2 undertook an “activity for the purpose of promoting an enterprise relating to narcotic drugs by travelling to Santacruz, Bolivia to facilitate shipment of 5,880 kilogrammes of cocaine concealed in 840 sacks of fertilizer to Burkina Faso.”
Brief Facts
On March 4, 2015, Bolivian authorities arrested Carlos Alberto Reyes, his nephew and his wife and one Ednenis Rivero Roca at a premeises where about 5,880 kilogrammes of cocaine concealed in 840 sacks of fertlizer was seized in Bolivia.
Investigation so far indicates that the consignment was bound to be shipped to Burkina Faso and was to have been received by the first and second accused and others yet to be apprehended.
The investigator in the case prayed the court to remand the accused persons to assist in further investigations.
