National President of the Dragon Boat Association, Rex Wusah has called on the Ministry of Youth and Sports to pay equal attention to the lesser known sports disciplines in the country.
According to him, such a move could earn the Nation a lot of laurels which can raise the image of the country in international circles.
Mr Wusah made the call during a conferment of honour on the former minister for youths and sports and MP for Anlo, Clemence Kofi Humado at a colourful ceremony in Anyanui in the Keta municipality.
Mr Wussah emphasized that if Government could allocate the needed resources towards the development of the lesser known sports disciplines in the country, the dragon boat association alone could win 10 medals annually for the country, adding that the time has come for Government to end over-concentration of resources on football at the expense of other lesser-known sports disciplines. .
Receiving the honour, the former minister said he was humbled by the honour done him and pointed out that little did he know that the faithful discharge of his responsibility as the then sports minister would earn him such an award.
He also thanked the international dragon boat association and expressed his hopes that the youth and sports ministry would do well to develop the numerous talents that abound in the lesser known sports disciplines.
The Volta regional chairman of the association Mr Kofi Lumor noted the support of the former minister to the Association, which led to the establishment of the regional and national teams which have annually been taking part in regional and international competitions and therefore called in the youths to show much interest in such disciplines.
