More than one thousand residents in Bimbilla in the Northern Region have been displaced following a rainstorm that hit the area early this week.
The rainstorm that hit the town in the Nanumba North District lasted for about an hour, wrecking havoc to roofs of over 200 houses.
About four classroom blocks in Machoni, Gulyansi, Manja and Gunguni, in Bimbila, were also ripped off, according to Joy News Correspondent, Hashmin Mohammed.
Electrical appliances such as refrigerators, television sets, food stuffs and other belongings of residents were also destroyed in the torrential rains.
Hashmin reports that victims of the rainstorm are currently living with friends, family members and relatives in the area.
Officials of National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in the district are yet to receive relief items from the headquarters in Accra for onward distribution to displaced residents.
The situation, according to reports has left victims of the rainstorm stranded and helpless.
DCE for Nanumba North, Alhaji Mohammed Ibn Abass, told Joy News the assembly cannot immediately attend to the plight of the affected persons because resources have been used up to maintain the peace in the area.
Bimbila is among the hotspots for ethnic and chieftaincy clashes in the Northern Region.
