A combined team of heavily armed police and military personnel deployed to the Brong Ahafo Regional town of Sankore say they are intensifying search for five men who inflicted machete wounds on a resident.
Kwesi Amponsah, Kweku Richmond, Azuma, Nana Osei and a man named only as Figo reportedly went into the town with machetes and inflicted wounds on some of the residents.
It is unclear the reasons for the attacks, but one Kwame Fosu who is also known as Kwame Macho suffered multiple machete wounds and was sent to the Goaso Government Hospital.
Assemblyman for Sakore North, Stephen Akowua, could not tell Joy News why the men invaded the town with the machetes.
He added that majority of the young men in the town have fled due to the clashes.
Regional Police Commander DCOP Maxwell Atingane told Joy News the suspects fled into the bush when they heard the police and military advancing towards the community.
He added the police are seriously looking for the suspects, hinting the appropriate punishment will be handed them when they are arrested.
He also noted that the service is currently unsure what the true cause of the clash was and denied that most of the men had fled the town.
DCOP Atingane said the police will be in the town until they are certain that there will be no reprisals.
He urged residents to cooperate with the security agencies in finding a solution to the problem.
