Some passengers, including Ghanaians, of Arik Air, who are supposed to fly to Ghana from Logos, Nigeria, are angry with the airline over undue delays.
The passengers, who were supposed to leave Lagos to Accra on board the Arik Airlines Flight 304, have been left stranded at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Thursday with no palpable explanation from airline officials.
According to one of the passengers, Richard Nunekpeku, who sent a distress call to Myjoyonline.com, the flight was supposed to leave Lagos at 17:00 but has been delayed from several hours.
According to him, attempts to get explanations from airline officials have proved futile.
He explained that they were expected to fly at 5:00pm today but as at 8:00 pm they are still at the airport.
"There is no customer service, no proper update on when the plane will fly. No water for the passengers stranded,” lamented.
According to him, this is not the first time there has been undue delays by the airline. “Passengers are irritated. About at least three persons have suffered same for more than three times.”
“Some passengers are handicapped and they couldn’t even be given proper care. [The handicapped] man has no place to rest for the last four hours. The sad thing is that now they are waiting for planes to arrive from other destinations before they fly.
“What is the implications then? We have planes at the risk of running long hauls without maintenance and checks before the next flight. There is disaster waiting to happen with this attitude and Ghana Airport Authority must act now,” Mr Nunekpeku lamented.
Nnamdi, a customer service personnel with Arik Air in Nigeria, explained to Myjoyonline.com that the incident was just slight delay and directed the passengers “to speak with the duty manager at the airport.”
“There is a delay, it will operate at 9:20pm” he tried to explain. He stated further that the flight was originally scheduled to take off at 19:50 but due to the slight delay it will now take off at 21:20.
But the travel documents sighted by Myjoyonline.com indictate that the flight was scheduled to depart at 17:00 hours and not at 19:50.
When Myjoyonline.com contacted some of the passengers at 21:20, they reported the airline officials as saying there was no fuel.
