Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie on Tuesday led a delegation of personalities from the country’s creative arts industry to pay a visit to victims of last Wednesday’s floods and fire disasters.
The delegation, made up musicians and actors, were at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and the 37 Military Hospital to visit victims who were receiving treatment there.
The visit, turned into one of sorrow as several entertainment personalities, notably Irene Opare, Kalsoume Sinare and Philipa Baafi, could not hold back their tears in the sight of the victims on admission.
Notable celebrities who were part of the delegation, which numbered about 100, included, Selassie Ibrahim, Nii Odoi Mensah, Roselyn Ngissah, Celestine Donkor, Bill Asamoah, Kwame Dzokoto, Ayitey Powers, Bukom Banku, Pascaline Edward, Akorfa Ejeanie Asiedu, Barima Sydney, Edinam Atakye, Funny Face, Bice Osei Kuffour (Obour), Bernard Amankwa, and Ekow Smith Asante.
Abla Dzifa Gomashie explained that the aim of the visit was to sympathise with the victims and also thank the doctors for the tirless efforts they are putting in to save lives.
“We are here to commiserate with them and to wish them well and to applaud you all for what you are doing for Mother Ghana and to tell them that they are in our thoughts and our prayers. So that’s why we came, we would be visiting a few more people and then talk to the leadership of the hospital. Thank you so much for what you are doing,” the Deputy Minister said.
Selassie Ibrahim, on behalf of the delegation, donated an undisclosed amount of money and assorted items to support the treatment of the victims on admission.
Their donation is coming at a time that country’s entertainment personalities have been called upon to use their influence to mobilise support for the affected.
Some Ghanaian musicians will also be staging a concert to raise funds to support victims of the floods and fire disasters.
