Shatta Wale has congratulated his arch-rival Stonebwoy on winning the Best International Act: Africa at the 2015 Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards.
In spite of the years of serious differences and turf wars between them, Shatta Wale rose above the bickering on this occasion to celebrate what many have described as a win for Ghana.
Stonebwoy, born Livingstone Etse Satekla, was adjudged winner of Ghana’s second BET award at a pre-recorded event Sunday at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
He beat Ghanaian counterpart Sarkodie and some of Africa’s biggest acts to win the award. The other nominees in that category were AKA (South Africa), Fally Ipupa (DR Congo), Sauti Sol (Kenya), The Soil (South Africa), Wizkid (Nigeria) and Yemi Alade (Nigeria).
Sarkodie jointly won Ghana’s first BET award in 2012 with Nigeria’s Wizkid.
In a short congratulatory message posted on twitter, Shatta Wale said “....Big up stonebwoy for winning the best African at the BET AWARDS...One champagne for that..lol”
Shatta Wale, born Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jnr, and Stonebwoy do not see eye to eye.
Their bitter rivalry spans years and their battles as to who is supreme when it comes to dancehall music in Ghana have raged on unceasingly.
Shortly after the 2015 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), where Stonebwoy was crowned Artiste of Year, Shatta Wale, who won the same award a year earlier, is alleged to have said that Stonebwoy did not deserve the win.
He is alleged to have said Sarkodie rather deserved the Artiste of the Year award.
Stonebwoy also won Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year and Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year at the VGMA.
