Help has finally come to over 400 pupils of the Presbyterian Primary School in the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly of the Northern Region. The pupils have for some time now been lying on their bellies to read and write in class.
Roads and Highways Minister Alhaji Inusah Fuseini has presented 200 dual desks to the Tamale Metropolitan Directorate of the Ghana Education for onward delivery to the school.
The presentation follows Joy News' report highlighting poor infrastructure conditions under which pupils of the school learn.
Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, who is the Member of Parliament for the Tamale Central Constituency where the school is located, accompanied by his constituency executives, said he was touched by the Joy News report.
“Immediately I saw that story I thought that did not augur well for effective teaching and learning so I activated the process of getting the dual desks for the school... the 200 desks will seat 400 pupils,” he said.
He urged the headmaster of the school to take good care of the desks for future generation.
The Tamale Central legislature also pledged an amount of GHC 10,000 to authorities of the school for the renovation of a dilapidated three unit classroom block where over 100 children at the kindergarten learn.
Alhaji Inusah added that the only way to eradicate poverty is through education, explaining why he will continue to support in the provision of educational infrastructure, teaching and learning materials to secure the future of children.
Headmaster of the school Amadu Zakaria tells Joy News some of the children of the school often do not want to come to school because of the poor infrastructure there.
He is however hopeful with the presentation, that challenge will be addressed.
