A musical extravaganza honouring music legend Kiki Gyan will be held at Alliance Française in Accra on Saturday, October 3.
The event will be used to celebrate the former member of Osibisa, who immensely influenced the Ghanaian society through his musical endeavours, even placing Ghana on the world map as the fifth best pianist in the world.
On this memorable night, some of Ghana’s biggest musical names including M.anifest, Adomaa, Ambolley, VVIP, Kojo Cue and Ewudze will take the stage in honour of the legend and also celebrate Ghanaian music as a whole.
Simultaneously, the event will serve as the launch of the Kiki Gyan Foundation. The Kiki Gyan foundation was started last year which marked the tenth anniversary of the artiste’s death to fulfill the last request of the music legend.
The main aim of the foundation is to educate people on narcotic drugs and also raise money through music.
In Kiki Gyan’s last interview, he stated his desire to start a foundation. His family is making that desire a reality by partnering with HPR Media, organisers of the event.
“I’m also blessed to unveil the Kiki Gyan Foundation on the night of the show,” said Vanessa Gyan in a statement.
She added, “[It] will highlight the Say No To Drugs campaign, while also being a platform to give back to those who have a passion for music but may not have the financial backing to learn more about the craft they love.”
Proceeds from the show will go into running the Kiki Gyan Foundation.
According to the organisers of the event, musicians selected to perform during the concert are those who had a history with Kiki Gyan either in the music industry or in his personal life.
There will also be a preview of a documentary about Kiki Gyan on the night.
Organisers added that, fans of Kiki and the audience should expect to hear Kiki Gyan’s songs rephrased into contemporary music style.
Kiki Gyan, who was also known as Kiki Djan, was a keyboardist of the band Osibisa formed in the 1970s and still the most famous Ghanaian band abroad.
He also recorded and produced a series of disco records. He was a prodigy who could play keyboards very well.
Kiki died on June 10, 2004.
