Ghanaian reggae artiste, Rocky Dawuni says his nomination for the 2016 Grammy awards is a milestone for Ghana and Africa at large.

The artiste, who is based in the US, received a nomination at the Grammy’s in the Best Reggae Album category for his ‘Branches of the same tree’ album.

Speaking in an interview with Amanda on ‘Showbiz Filla’ on Hitz FM, Rocky Dawuni revealed that the news came as a big surprise to him.

“I feel that this is a milestone of Ghanaian music, to be recognized within the realms of the Grammys, which is the biggest you can imagine, is a big thing for Ghana and African reggae.”

Rocky Dawuni will be competing with Jah Cure, Barrington Levy, Luciano and Morgan Heritage in that category.

American rapper Kendrick Lamar leads the nominations for the 58th Annual Grammy Awards.

The Compton rapper has 11 nods, followed by The Weekend and Taylor Swift, who each earned seven nominations. Additionally, Drake picked up five nominations.
