The National Security is on the heels of one Reverend Prince Akwetey, who posed as an operative of that outfit and defrauded people under the pretext of getting them auctioned cars at the Tema port. Sources at the National Security told The Enquirer that several reports of fraud have been received involving Rev. Akwetey, who goes round with fake identification cards to dupe people. According to the sources, the modus operandi of Rev. Akwetey was that he had printed some fake documents indicating that he has been allocated some cars at the Tema port, and he had been using them to lure unsuspecting people into the deal. One of the documents in the possession of The Enquirer states that the Customs Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) had allocated five cars to Rev. Akwetey. Rev. Akwetey, according to the document, which has turned out to be forged, stated that he had been allocated one BMW X-5 Standard, costing GH¢10,000.00 and needed to deposit GH¢3,000.00, one American Ford costing GH¢7,000.00 and had to deposit GH¢3,000.00 and Ford Vio costing GH¢4,000.00 and must deposit GH¢1,000.00. The document also indicates that Rev. Akwetey was also allocated a Nissan Urvan Bus (right hand) costing GH¢3,000.00 and needed to deposit GH¢1,000.00 and Daewoo Car Standard at the same price and also needed a deposit of GH¢ 1,000.00. But the National Security sources said none of their personnel have been allocated any vehicles at any point in time. The sources said one complaint received involved an amount of GH¢ 10,000.00 (¢ 100,000.00) that Rev. Akwetey collected from one Kwabena Badu. According to the sources, Rev. Akwetey, in November, last year, signed an undertaking and collected the said amount from Mr. Badu as part payment for auction cars. The sources said under the undertaking Mr. Badu was to make further payments for the cars to be delivered but after collecting the money he went into hiding. The sources said Mr. Badu made an official search at the National Security offices and it came out Rev. Akwetey is not an operative of the state security setup and has never been one. According to the sources, all efforts would be made to apprehend the suspect and that the public should be on the lookout for such characters and report them to the appropriate authorities.
