Hundreds of hawkers on a parcel of land near novotel hotel have finally relocated to the Odawna Market.The hawkers had earlier resisted persistent attempts by city authorities to move them from the place.But they gave in Monday dawn and packed out under heavy security surveillance.Accra mayor Alfred Vanderpuiye tells Joy News it is gratifying to see almost one thousand five hundred hawkers comply with the AMA’s directive.He said the AMA is working hard to meet the concerns of the traders and will provide the requisite materials needed for business at the new location."We are going to work through this to make sure we make provision for everybody at the new site," he said.The relocation he said will demystify the notion that pedestrian stalls are not patronized.Meanwhile Joy News has learnt of confusion at the odawna market between the old traders and the new hawkers over space.Moses Kanga reports the traders are jostling for positions they believe will facilitate business at the new site.Some of the traders accused the authorities of not providing stalls for them to sell their wares and threatened to move back to the Novotel market.But the Public Relations Officer of the AMA James Dorgbetor told Super Morning Show Host Kojo Oppong Nkrumah enough personnel will be directed to the Odawna to assist in the relocation for the new traders.He described as unfortunate the struggle for space at the new market and attributed that to the mad rush to meet a month long eviction deadline.Story: Moses Kanga/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
