The Ashanti Regional Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has organised the first ever constitution game competition for the police in the Kumasi Metropolis. This formed part of efforts at helping security personnel to have better understanding of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana and deepen their awareness about the rights and freedoms of the people.Mr Alhassan Yakubu, the Regional Director of NCCE said the effectiveness, efficiency and professionalism of the police would be greatly enhanced if they were abreast with the provisions in the Constitution. He said the knowledge that would be acquired through the game would help to prevent the abuse of fundamental human rights of suspects in the performance of their duties. He said the constitution game, which was popular among the youth had proved successful not only in helping to inculcate civic virtues in them.Mr Kwaku Appiah-Kagya, the Metropolitan Director of the NCCE, said there was the need for all to uphold the constitution and sustain the nation's democracy. He called for closer collaboration between the police and the general public to ensure law and order in the country.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Thomas Duku, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Commander, said they were grateful to the Commission for the programme adding that he was hopeful it would help the police to master the tenets of the constitution.Source: GNA
