The Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) has dismissed the Administrator of the Trinity Congregation of the church at Tema Community 4, Ms Doris Sobre, who was the centre of the recent sex scandal in the church.
It has also relieved the Accounts Officers of the congregation, Ms Philomena Fosu, of her post.
Besides, the church is to transfer the District Minister, Reverend Eliezer Kissiedu-Ayi, and his second-in-command, Rev. Mrs Elizabeth Fosu, from Tema with immediate effect.
The dismissals and transfers were recommendations mad by the seven-member committee set up by the Ga Presbytery of the PCG to investigate the alleged sex scandal and other related issues at the congregation.
A source close to the committee told the Daily Graphic that Ms Sobre was dismissed on ground of insubordination and her bad relationship with members of the congregation, not for her alleged involvement in the sex scandal.
He said Ms Fosu was also penalized for negligence of duty, as she was found to have leaked vital information on the congregation to outsiders.
It said the church was unable to establish any truth concerning the allegation of sex involving Ms Sobre, Rev Kissiedu-Ayi and some senior presbyters of the congregation, since it was very difficult to obtain any credible proof.
It stated that all the persons associated with the allegation denied it, while Ms Sobre ably refuted the existence of any illicit relationship between her ands any of the men mentioned.
According to the source, other witnesses who appeared before the committee, including Ms Augustine Egbenya Mawutor, categorically denied any sexual relationship between Ms Sobre and Rev Kissiedu-Ayi.
It said the committee observed that the alleged remained a perception rather than a fact.
It also observed that there had been no physical scuffle or fight between the administrators and Nana Abena Dankwah Ahenkan at the frontage of the church, adding, “There was, however, a verbal assault between them within the precincts of the office of the administrator when they emerged from the office of the district minister.”
The source said there had been subtle instance when the administrator was deemed to have shown signs of insubordination to members of the congregation, including the leadership, citing the open confrontation between her and the Second Minister, Rev Mrs Fosu.
It said the committee observed that even through Re Kissiedu-Ayi was a dynamic person, he was not an effective team player, evidenced in the manner in which he managed the crisis on his hands.
“In the course of our assignment, it become crystal clear that the working relationship between the district minister and the second minister was not healthy. They barely tolerated each other and handled their differences with maturity,” it added.
The Chairperson of the seven-member committee was Rev C.B. Ahwireng. Other members were Rev Esther Adjety, the Convenor; Rev Dr G.A. Dadzaa, Mr M.K. Amoatey, Mrs Victoria Dako and Mr E. O. Akyeampong, as members, with Mr E.T. Wilson as member/secretary.
