The Attorney General, Betty Mould Iddrisu, says she is no longer interested in pursuing a case of murder against one of three Abudus being held in connection with the Murder of Ya-Na Yakubu Andani.
Mohammed Yakubu was among three Abudus who were being held without charge.
The Attorney General has also reduced the charges against two more Abudus also held in connection with the murder. The two have subsequently been granted bail.
The concessions by the Attorney General are being viewed as victory for the Abudu family who embarked on a series of street protests last week to demand the immediate release of their three kinsmen.
They had argued that the three suspects have been held without charge in violation of their rights.
Betty Mould Iddrisu will not disclose the actual reasons for discontinuing the case against Mohammed Yakubu but has stressed that her department is committed to pursuing the case against the other suspects in the case.
Meanwhile, spokesperson for the Abudu family, Ziblim Idi says their protest played a part in the latest development.
“Our demonstration was basically on two main issues; the immediate release of three members of the family and the committal of the six members who have been indicted by the state.
“Today when we went to court fortunately for the family all three were released today,” he said.
He said the family is happy for the three and believes the case will be resolved in court.
Meanwhile, the former DCE for Yendi, Habib Tijani has also been charged with abetment of murder. He is also an Abudu.
Mr. Ziblim Idi says he is confident Mr. Tijani will be exonerated.
