More police officers would be deployed on the streets if the Black Stars win their quarter-final match against Uruguay on Friday to check fans indiscipline. According to DCOP Daniel Avorga, Commander of the Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service, it has come to the notice of the unit some football fans grossly disregard road traffic regulations in excessive jubilations. Since the World Cup started, casualties have been recorded in parts of the country after fans took to the streets in frenzied celebrations; sometimes using vehicles and motorbikes to endanger lives. An eyewitness to one of such dangerous scenes of celebration recounted to Joy News how a motorbike carelessly ridden by two persons skidded off a slippery road and plunged into a light pole. He said they were riding dangerously and in the opposite direction of traffic. “Because of the speed at which they were moving, the guy behind the bike's head hit the street light and you can just imagine the amount of blood that was coming out…and the blood was oozing onto the street…the guy later died of severe bleeding”. The second person, he said, survived with some bruises.
