The Editor of the Daily Post newspaper, Mike Dokosi, was Wednesday afternoon the guest of National Security officers at the Castle Annex (Blue Gate) over a publication by the paper claiming former President Jerry Rawlings was under a 24-hour surveillance.
A source close to the paper said a telephone call Tuesday had invited the editor for a “friendly conversation” over the publication. The about one-and-half-hour “conversation” was to assist in establishing who could be tailing the former president and for what reasons.
“My understanding is that Dokosi met with the Deputy Coordinator of National Security, Kosivi Degbor, who wanted to know if the editor or the newspaper could provide the names of those who could be engaged in that. Of course like all good journalists, the editor refused to give the names of its sources but maintained that the publication was indeed truthful.”
“From what I also know, the Deputy Coordinator of National Security also dismissed the claim and maintained the security set-up was unaware of such a plot.
The Daily Post had claimed in the publication that the Mills administration was ‘rewarding’ the former president with a minute-by-minute surveillance both home and abroad, apparently for Rawlings’ continued criticism of the government.
Rawlings, believing that the government could do better in a lot of ways, has been one of the Mills-led administration’s fiercest critics.
