A 22-year-old student of Samo Senior High School in Cape Coast who admitted raping a 17-year-old girl, was on Tuesday remanded into prison custody pending sentence, by a circuit court in Cape Coast.
The suspect, Albert Quainoo, pleaded guilty to rape, and the court presided over by Mr. Richard Asiedu Badu deferred sentence to Friday July 16 when he would be re-arraigned.
Inspector Daniel Agbezuhlor, prosecuting, told the court that last month, Quainoo proposed to the girl who was then passing by where he was sitting with some friends, but she turned down his proposal.
He said Quainoo followed up to the victim's school on three occasions, but she always ignored him.
Inspector Agbezuhlor said last Thursday July 1, at about 1930hrs, the victim who lives in a hostel was sent by one of her seniors to purchase a battery, and on her return the suspect spotted and invited her over, but she refused.
He said unknowing to the girl, the suspect trailed and grabbed her from behind and pushed her into an uncompleted building behind her school and tore her dress in pieces with a blade.
Inspector Agbezuhlor said the victim pleaded with Quainoo to free her because she was in her menstrual period, but he refused and went ahead to forcibly had sexual intercourse with her.
He said after the act, she rushed to the school and informed her colleagues, who in turn reported it to the police and a medical report form was issued to her for treatment at the hospital.
Inspector Agbezuhlor said the suspect was later arrested and during interrogation he admitted the offence.Source: GNA
