It appears the Trades Union Congress (TUC) will rescind its decision to embark on a nation-wide strike on Tuesday over the recent increases in utility tariffs. The leadership of the Union early on this month indicated that it will embark on an industrial action to register its displeasure at the price hikes. But after a meeting with President John Mills and a subsequent directive from the government that the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission should engage the Union over their concerns, it appears the TUC may back down on their intended action. The General Secretary of the TUC, Kofi Asamoah told Joy News the Union is however yet to take a firm decision on the next line of action. He reiterated though that the hikes were too high for workers to afford, given that there has been no commensurate increase in salaries. He said the TUC after thorough meetings will make its decision public on Monday.Source: Joy News/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
