The Board of the Ghana Music Awards has declared that dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Jnr, popularly known as Shatta Wale will not be nominated for the awards this year.
The Board of the awards made the disclosure during a press conference Tuesday at the World Trade Centre in Accra to address issues and controversies generated by this year’s awards.
According to Theresa Ayoade, CEO of Charter House, organisers of the awards, Shatta Wale doesn’t qualify for this year’s awards unless he completes the process of officially apologising for maligning the VGMA Board.
The Board also disclosed that the Gospel Album of the Year category has been scrapped for this year's awards.
Charter House explained that not enough gospel albums were submitted and those that were submitted did not have the minimum requirements for three hit songs.
The Board, therefore, noted gospel albums will now compete with other genres.
It also came to light at the press conference that Lifetime Achievement Awards will be merged with MUSIGA Merit Award this year. They explained that the decision was taken because both awards represent the same thing.
Also, there won’t be an award for the Music for Development Award.
The main Awards Night is scheduled for May 7 at the Accra International Conference Centre.
Unlike previous years, there won’t be the Industry Awards Night which usually precedes the Awards Night.
