The adage, “Every misfortune could be a blessing,” was manifested in the life of Ghana’s celebrated artiste, Daasebre Gyamena, who returned recently to a rousing welcome after spending almost a year in incarceration in the United Kingdom on drug- related charges.Information gathered indicates that Daasebre ‘Ahofe’ Gyamena, while in detention awaiting what fate would befall him, still put himself in order, undeterred by his predicament, and did what he knew to do best: he wrote 500 songs, a feat never achieved in the history of Ghana’s showbiz, if not the whole world.The new Manager/Publicist of Daasebre, Ms. Lawrencia Duah said Daasebre took advantage of the solitude the prison provided and educated himself as well in Information Technology (IT), precisely computer literacy.This achievement places him in the class of many great personalities like Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Nelson Mandela and other great men who were incarcerated but later became great people.According to Ms. Duah, Daasebre is cooling off somewhere, to recompose himself spiritually and physically and then go back to the studio with a ‘BANG’.She asked Ghanaians to expect something more ‘tangible’ from Daasebre in his next release.However, when pressed to explain what ‘tangible’ meant, Ms. Duah said: “Ghanaian musicians like singing about love, death, women but as a good lyricist, Daasebre’s songs carry a lot of weight, words of wisdom, philosophical, drug education, inspirational for the youth and these won’t be different.”She disclosed that what she would be doing for Daasebre as his Manager/Publicist was to help ‘clean’ him up since many people still believed he really carried the drug in his bag.Ms. Duah stated that Daasebre was tried by a court of competent jurisdiction, acquitted and discharged, so was never convicted of the crime he was accused of.Based on that judgment, according to her, Daasebre was not deported but left the United Kingdom on his own volition.“He was not deported from the UK and still qualifies under the immigration laws to go back to the UK as and when he wishes,” she assured.Ms. Duah apologized as well to Ghanaians for what happened at the Airport when they came to welcome home their ‘hero’ but got disappointed.She explained that Daasebre was so overwhelmed and humbled by such huge attendance which he least expected, he had to resort to the apparent hide - and – seek tactic.She thanked all Ghanaians and those who prayed in support of him during his tribulations.His producer, Benjamin Mensah, also known as Big Ben who spoke from Kumasi, corroborating his wife’s earlier assertion that he had lost his sister and was busy preparing for the funeral, said Daasebre’s release boosted sale of his current album, “A friend in need”.Now that he has come back, he said, they would concentrate on his video production, interviews and other marketing strategies to promote his album.Source: Daily Guide
