Government is yet to announce a date on which the 2010 population and housing census will officially commence.
The Ghana Statistical Service says it has presented some dates for consideration by the government, out of which one will be chosen on which the two-week exercise will start.
Government Statistician Dr. Grace Bediako disclosed this today when she formally opened a training programme for 320 enumerators at Legon.
The participants will in turn train enumerators at the regional and district levels ahead of the exercise.
Dr. Bediako noted that although the exercise unofficially took-off late last year with the trial census, there will be the historic snap-shot of the exercise on census night to signify the commencement of the exercise.
Dr. Bediako urged the participants to take the training seriously, since the success of the census depends on the quality of training they have received and the vigilance of supervision they put into it.
The Government Statistician reminded the participants to ensure that they live up to the standards that the GSS is striving to set with this year’s population and housing census.
