A new jury could be in place by next week when two of three soldiers who are standing trial for the alleged murder of Alhaji Issa Mobilla, the late Northern Regional Chairman of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), make their next appearance in court. This follows the third adjournment of the case yesterday and the third-time absence of the foreman of the jury which is hearing the alleged murder of Alhaji Mobilla. For the third consecutive time, the foreman of the jury, who was said to be indisposed, was not present. Consequently, Mr Justice Senyo Dzamefe, a Court of Appeal judge sitting as an additional High Court judge, said the Accra Fast Track High Court hearing the matter would, on July 27, 2010, decide whether or not to substitute the foreman or start the trial afresh. The court’s next line of action has become necessary because in a trial on indictment, the rule requires that when a member of the jury is unavailable, the trial has to be started afresh after a new jury has been empanelled.Source: Daily Graphic/Ghana
