The assembly woman for Bekwai-Adankranja, Miss Veronica Amoatemaah, has appealed to the government to rehabilitate the 10.8 kilometre Bekwai Railways-Homase road to help boost economic activities in the area. She said the people of that area are hard working farmers who cultivate cassava and tomato as well as indulge in oil-palm plantations, but they are not realizing the potentials of their business activities due to the bad nature of the road. Speaking to newsmen at Obuasi, Miss Amoatemaah said the road, when rehabilitated, would make it easier for the farmers to transport their farm produce to the market centres and sell. “As it is now, the farmers are at a disadvantage, as most of their produce is left to rot, especially during bumper harvests.” She said the road was essential to the development of the Bekwai Municipality and motorists, since it serves as a vital by-pass anytime the Anhwiankwanta-Bekwai highway becomes flooded. Miss Amoatemaah also pleaded with the Electricity Corporation of Ghana to supply electricity metres to houses in the electoral area. She commended the Municipal Assembly for building four new schools at Amoamo, Adankranja, Emerase-Anwiam and Ahwiaa and called for the extension of the government’s school feeding programme to the schools. On health, the Assemblywoman urged the Municipal assembly to help complete a clinic at Amoamo to improve health care delivery in the area. Miss Amoatemaah, who indicated her intention to seek re-election in the impending district assembly polls, said she was happy with the support and encouragement from people in the electoral area, urging them to continue maintaining the peace in the area.
