The youth of Jujeidayiri, have threatened to cause mayhem should the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation carry out its plan to construct a security wall on a disputed land purportedly owned by their community at Wa.They claim that the disputed portion of land was not part of the parcel of land originally given to the GBC by elders of the community in the colonial era.But authorities of the GBC have said their claim is backed by documentary evidence.They have, therefore, appealed to the Regional Security Council and Upper West Regional Minister to intervene in the resolution of the matter and also provide security protection to prevent their property from being vandalised.At a press conference, at the weekend, the youth contended that they had resolved that no amount of intimidation and force from any quarters would prevent them from pursuing the matter to its logical conclusion so the GBC should respect the agreement.Mr. Mohammed Nanii, a youth from the community, who read the press statement, said members of the community had exhausted all the diplomatic means to resolve the matter amicably with various stakeholders in the region but failed.Mr. Nanii said: “The community members would resist any GBC Management attempt to bend the laws of the land and use the Police to intimidate us and confiscate a portion of land which is not part of the piece of land that was given to GBC voluntarily without any monetary inducement before Ghana’s independence.He said in May this year, a meeting was held between the elders of the community, the Municipal Assembly, GBC Management and the Police Command to resolve the matter and it was agreed by all that construction work should halt on the security fence wall until a lasting solution was found.The new GBC Regional Director, has held series of meetings in an effort to resolve the matter peacefully, Mr. Nanii explained.The youth said they were, therefore, surprised when elders of the community informed them that they had heard that the municipal assembly had given the approval for work on the security wall to continue amidst the deployment of armed police guards.In the wake of the tensed situation, pieces of red bands are now flying high on the security wall of the GBC with a cardboard with the inscription “Beyond this point, War”.Source: GNA
