Queen-mothers are to be paid monthly allowances by government. This was disclosed by the Vice President John Mahama at a meeting with chiefs in the Central Region.Currently it is only paramount chiefs who are paid monthly allowance of One Hundred Ghana Cedis. But now government says it is finalizing arrangements to extend the facility to queen mothers. This according to the vice-president is part of the ‘Better Ghana Agenda’ promised by the Mills’ administration.
He did not however say when this policy will start. John Jinapor special aide to the Vice President says the policy will soon be implemented.“Very soon government intends giving an upward adjustment in respect of allowances that are given to chiefs. The chiefs have complained that their allowances are woefully inadequate and so government through the ministry of chieftaincy will come out with the modalities to ensure they have an upward adjustment,” he told Joy News.“Secondly, queen mothers are usually not taken care of when it comes to these allowances and that queen mothers will also be roped in so that they can also benefit from this facility.Source: Joy News/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
