Members of the Abudu Royal Gate say they are displeased with the turn of events in the trial of 15 of their kinsmen for alleged complicity in the murder of Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II.
They claim the Attorney General does not have any evidence to back its case against the suspects.
For them, the unfolding events involving state prosecutors and Judge Anthony Oppong are mere ploys by the Attorney General to retain the suspects in custody.
The case is temporarily suspended following Mr. Oppong's decision to get the case reassigned to a different judge following allegations of bias and unprofessional conduct leveled against him by the Deputy Attorney General, Ebow Barton-Odro.
Dr Ziblim Iddi, Spokesperson for the Abudu Gate wants the Chief Justice to immediately transfer the case to another court for hearing.
“They know that if they should follow up with this trial they are going to lose and so in the interest of not losing they are finding ways of trying to delay the trial,” he said.
But the Abudu Royal Family, he said, “has confidence in the justice system and we fully support members of the Bench and so we are calling on the Chief Justice and her lieutenants not to be intimidated or cowed by what is going on.”
