Relative calm is said to have returned to the Karaga district in the Northern Region following a reconciliatory meeting between irate National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth and supporters of President Mills’ nominee for DCE. Irate youth of the ruling party went on rampage shooting indiscriminately in the Karaga town in protest against the nomination of Sulemana Hussein Issah. However, the two sides Monday afternoon decided to bury their differences after meeting elders of the town. A close associate of Sulemana Issah, Mohammad Habib, said the solution to the problem did not lie in replacing the president’s nominee as was being opined by a section of the youth. Confirming the development, one of the opponents of the new DCE and assemblyman for Karaga East, said the youth decided to give peace a chance. “…If God has made him the [DCE], he will surely be; if God doesn’t make him the Chief Executive then it is not our fault again,” he said. “…Because we want peace and development. In fact everything is now behind.” Responding to the situation, Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, expressed delight at the turn of events and said the youth must seek peace as failure to do so will derail efforts at developing those areas. Mr Afriyie-Ankrah assured the president's nominee would be maintained. Meanwhile, the Northern Regional Minster has issued a stern warning to irate youth in the area saying his outfit will not spare any NDC youth causing violence in the town.
