The Nima Police in Accra are looking for the driver of a Madina-bound 207 trotro bus and his mate after they disappeared from an accident scene involving their vehicle Sunday morning. The white mini-bus with registration number GR 166 X and bearing the inscription FEEMEP Saviour School Bus, had taken off from the Kaneshie Station at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle and taken to the Ring Road Central when at about 10am the speeding vehicle hit a concrete street light pole and landed on its side at Silver Cup. It left some of the passengers with contusions, broken and bleeding limbs as well as dented a taxi on which it partly fell. Fortunately, there was no fatality but also spilled its diesel and rendered the road slippery, requiring the Fire Service to wash it off and free the traffic that was building up. Strangely, moments after the badly shaken passengers had struggled out of the fallen vehicle to safety, the driver and his mate were nowhere to be found. They were gone with the wind apparently, leaving the passengers, some of who said they were on their way home from church services and had spent their last cash, stranded. Virtually all the victims blamed the driver for “carelessness”, safe a few who said they did not realize anything until they felt the impact of the bus hitting the pole and joined in the chaotic shouting that ensued. A victim, Sam Bigou, told Myjoyonline.com the accident resulted from overspeeding on the part of the driver, who he said realised too late that his breaks were defective and rather than run into other vehicles, headed for the concrete pole.
