Government has responded to early morning demonstration embarked upon by the officers of the Prisons Service in the Ashanti Regional Capital in Kumasi in very strong terms.
It says as per the rules of engagement of the security services, going on any form of protest contravenes the law.
Deputy Information Minister James Agyenim-Boateng tells Asempa News the matter is being addressed by the National Security as well as the Ministry of the Interior and appropriate measures will be taken against officers who instigated Wednesday morning’s demonstration.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission [FWSC], Mr. George Smith-Graham says it is surprised by the action of the officers of the Ghana Prisons Service in Kumsai.
At an emergency press conference at the Ministry of Information, Mr. Smith Graham told Asempa News management of the Prisons Service never objected to the job evaluation undertaken by his outfit.
He says the FWSC will study the concerns of the Prisons Officers and respond to it appropriately. He urged its management to come to the FWSC for job re-evaluation.
In a related development, the FWSC has responded to an ultimatum given to it by the Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana National Association of Teachers that teachers be put on the Single Spine Salary Structure or face its wrath.
Chief Executive of the FWSC, Mr. George Smith Graham tells Asempa News it is in touch with the executives of GNAT and it is on schedule at putting teachers on the spine come next month.
