A young farmer in Kumasi plans to walk from the Ashanti regional capital to present a petition to the Presidency in Accra. The objective of Nana Kwadwo Amponsah is to prevail on government and other socio-economic partners to promote indigenous technological innovations and creativities. The project dubbed “A peace walk of a call to promote national development” will be launched at the Manhyia Palace on the 29th of October, 2010.According to Nana Kwadwo, “lack of an active local technological industry to meet the taste of the Ghanaian has over the years made the common Ghanaian and Africa believe ‘everything made in Africa bad, everything made in Europe good’. This taste if not reversed obviously will be the major setback in our age and quest for industrial advancement”.He alludes to the potentials of Apostle Kwadwo Sarfo’s works in job creation and economic growth. Apostle Sarfo and his team of technologists are revered for innovations in the manufacturing of ‘Kantanka’ vehicles, home appliances and other industrial equipment.Speaking in an interview with Luv Fm, Nana Kwadwo noted that “large-scale commercialization of local science and technology holds the key to wealth creation.“This is the time we want to see that after graduation from the universities, our people can have practical exposure where they can do so many things in terms of mobile phones, watches or mobile phones or anything to help the nation to move forward”.The farmer is confident traditional authorities, Parliament, Ministers, the President and other interest groups will buy into his message to change the fortunes of Ghana.Story by Kofi Adu Domfeh/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
