Some four Ghanaians are reportedly being held by Somali pirates off the Somali coast.
The four Ghanaians are a part of number of people in a ship taken hostage by the pirates who are demanding a ransom of $10 million.
The pirates have threatened that if by close of day today, the ransom money is not paid, they will execute the captives.
The Acting Director at the Foreign Affair Ministry told Joy FM’s Super Morning Show Wednesday that the ministry did receive a report from the family of a man who is reported to be in a ship hijacked by Somali pirates.
“Having received the report, we sent urgent messages to our mission in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to try and make contact with the owners of the ship for us to begin to understand what the [pirates] are asking for, where they are and their safety.”
He said the ministry was also trying to liaise with the missions of some nationals who are victims of the hostage to form a joint effort to deal with the crisis.
Mr Satu expressed the hope that the pirates will not follow through with their threats until adequate time is allowed to resolve the issue.
