The financial court in Accra presided over by Justice Bright Mensah has cautioned former Transport Minister, Dr. Richard Anane and Former Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei to appear before the court on the November 1, 2010, or face arrest.
Justice Bright Mensah was prevailed upon by counsel for the two from issuing a warrant for their arrest.
The counsel had suggested that the clients’ absence from court was the result of a miscommunication of the hearing date.
The two former ministers are standing trial along with former Chief of Staff, Kwadwo Mpiani; former Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Professor George Gyan Barfuor and the former Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Crabbe, for allegedly causing financial loss to the state through dealings at the Ghana International Airline (GIA).
The team of lawyers for the accused, including Acquah Sampson, Apaw Obeng, and Egbert Faibille Jnr., explained to the court that the absence of the two accused, Dr. Annane and Dr. Akoto Osei was not deliberate, but was due to a change in time of hearing the case. It was brought forward from 11am to 9am at the previous sitting.
