Mr Ishmael Ashitey, Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on constituency executives to start early campaign at the grassroots to canvas votes for the party. He noted that currently, there was enough time for the executives to launch their campaign programmes to explain the policies and plans of the party to the electorate before the national campaign begins for the 2012 election. Mr Ashitey gave the advice when he donated computers and accessories to the 27 constituencies in the region at a short ceremony at Tema. The Regional Chairman said during national campaign periods, there were time constraints for speakers on platforms to explain issues vividly to the people or answer questions. He therefore urged the executives to start their campaign now using information communication technology (ICT) at the constituency level for the masses to get a better understanding of issues for the party to achieve the ultimate goal of winning the 2012 election. "Even though platform style of campaigning is good in whipping up public interest, at the end of the day, its desired impact is not much felt, but the most effective way of informing the people and winning their votes is through ICT", he stated. Mr Ashitey appealed to the executives to use the computers to collate data and draw scientific political programmes that would be helpful to their activities in constituency-base campaign approach. Mr Samuel O. Darko, former Member of Parliament for Abokobi/Madina, who received the computers on behalf of his colleagues, expressed appreciation to the Regional Chairman for his gesture and assured him that the equipment would be used to achieve good results for the party.
