There are fears the number of displaced persons in the Central Gonja district could increase as heavy rains continue.
Currently, over 25 thousand persons have been forced out of their homes as the White and Black Volta Lakes overflow their banks coupled with a spillover from the opening of the Bagre Dam.
Two people including a pregnant lady have died in floods and thousands of farmlands and food crops have been lost to the floods.
The District Chief Executive, for Central Gonja, Issifu Salifu told Joy FM’s Super Morning Show host, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah the situation is precariously dire.
He said many of the displaced could not salvage anything and are badly in need of aid.
Mr. Salifu said the situation is being exacerbated by the rising flood waters which means there is no end in sight to the pain the people are facing.
He appealed for help to provide the displaced people with tents.
Central Gonja district coordinator of NADMO, Abudu Bawa said more help is needed to cater for the displaced persons.
He feared the number of victims could rise.
