A second police officer, Constable Owusu-Frimpong, has died of wounds he sustained when he was shot by a fugitive, Johnson Kombian.
The police officer is said to have passed early Thursday in the Northern regional capital of Tamale even as the police administration was preparing to airlift him to Accra because of the critical nature of his injuries.
Police Public Affairs Director, Superintendent Kwesi Ofori confirmed the death to Joy News.
He said the police administration was not able to airlift the victim out of Tamale on Wednesday because of bad weather.
Superintendent Ofori described Constable Owusu-Frimpong’s death as sad but added that the police will do all they can to ensure the culprit of the crime is arrested and made to answer for his crimes.
The death comes shortly after the police had announced a bounty for the capture of Johnson Kombian, who broke jail and later ambushed and fired at four officers, killing one instantly and injuring three others, including Constable Owusu-Frimpong.
Public Relations Officer at the Police Hospital in Accra, Chief Superintendent Juliana Obeng, said the administration is hopeful the cash reward will help the Service to apprehend the fugitive.
She said, “the police have the backing of the law and will work without fear or favour to bring perpetrators before the law.”
Four persons believed to be accomplices of the man described by the police as a notorious robber have already been arrested. The suspects are currently in custody in Tamale and will soon be put before court.
