Fifteen alleged impersonators, including three women, who falsified National Service posting documents have been handed over to the Central Regional Police.
Mr Kwasi Asiedu, Regional Director of the National Service Secretariat, (NSS) who told announced this at a media conference, on Wednesday, said 12 of the suspects were arrested in Cape Coast while the other three were nabbed at Agona Swedru.
According to him, some unscrupulous individuals are parading as officials of the scheme, and were falsifying documents on postings.
He cautioned the public to be on their guard and also contact the NSS when they need assistance.
Mr Asiedu said, on Friday, October 8, one Ebenezer Eyiah Mensah presented a forged appointment letter, which was detected and was subsequently handed over to the police, while nine others were nabbed on Friday, October 15.
He said one teacher who forged the letters for the alleged culprits has also been arrested while three others had been handed over to the BNI at Agona Swedru for further investigations.
He commended the police for its support.
He expressed the belief that a syndicate was behind the whole operation and that all suspects were graduates of the University of Education, Kumasi Campus, who have fake identity cards from the same institution and also have the same phone numbers.
He expressed the hope that all the perpetrators will be arrested and brought to book.
Mr Asiedu said the region was allocated 4,230 service personnel and that as at Tuesday, October 19, 2,953 had been posted.
He called on the service personnel to accept posting to wherever they are sent in order to serve the nation since after 10 months they could move to anywhere of their choice.
He also appealed to the Ghana Education Service to furnish them with the names of those on study leave in order to know who deserves to be posted.
