Government will soon recruit about 100 youth from the Northern Region into the Oil and Gas industry, the regional NYEP Coordinator has said.Mr. Mohammed Abio said the recruitment, which will be under the National Youth Employment Program (NYEP), is to demonstrate government’s commitment to ensure a fair distribution of the benefits of Ghana’s oil. The youth would be given the necessary training to enable them fit into the various sectors of the oil and gas industry, he said.Mr. Abio was speaking at a ceremony to welcome fresh students into the Nyankpala campus of the University for Development Studies (UDS) branch of the Tertiary Institutions Network (TEIN) of the NDC. Cataloguing what he said are job creation activities of the government, Mr. Abio said the government has rolled out 10 new youth friendly models of the NYEP and said the Youth in Road Repairs and Maintenance and Oil and Gas are some of the latest models.He noted that government had increased to 60 percent, the share of the NYEP in the Talk Tax which was initiated by the former regime to finance the program, adding that this move will now ensure prompt payment of allowances to beneficiaries of the program. The Deputy Northern Regional Minister, Mr. Sam Nasamu Asabigi who was the guest of honor at the ceremony welcomed the fresh students into the student wing of the NDC and challenged TEIN members across the country to research more into the political philosophy of the NDC and the party manifesto.This according to him will help them appreciate and defend government policies and the Better Ghana Agenda of President John Evans Atta Mills.Mr. Asabigi also advised TEIN members to guard against divisive tendencies, especially identifying with some perceived factions within the NDC saying that such an act can destroy the brighter future of the NDC.Credit: Samed Bitamsimli/Radio Justice
