A circuit court at Takoradi on Monday remanded Esther Anim Bonsu, a 26-year-old trader, for defrauding by false pretences and forgery.
The accused, who pleaded not guilty, would re-appear at court on November 3, this year.
Police Inspector Veronica Tibson told the court presided over by Mr. Kwasi Boakye that on October 1, this year, Bonsu approached a lawyer in Takoradi, who had advertised a family land for sale at $600,000.
She said the accused approached the lawyer and said that her aunt, who was in the United States of America, wanted to buy the land.
Bonsu managed to obtain the site plan and some documents covering the land from the lawyer.
Insp. Tibson said the accused made photocopies of the documents covering the land and took an affidavit to support the documents in order to claim ownership of the land with the intention of defrauding prospective buyers.
The Prosecution said that on October 5, the accused approached the complainant, Yaw Abotar, a businessman and offered to sell the land at GH4, 000.
Insp. Tibson said the accused went to the Lands Commission at Sekondi and verified the authenticity of the documents on the land and she collected GHc2, 500 from Abotar as part payment for the land.
The Prosecution said the complainant, suspected he was being defrauded after making enquiries from the lawyer, who advertised the land for sale.
Insp. Tibson said a report was made to the Takoradi Market Circle Police station by the complainant and Bonsu was arrested when she was coming for the rest of the money.
The Prosecution said that after police investigations, the accused was charged with the offences and arraigned at the court.
