A man and his wife have been sentenced to two years imprisonment each in hard labour by the Takoradi Circuit Court 'A' for unlawful entry. The couple, Emmanuel Kwofie and Augustina Konadu, were charged with unlawful entry, attempted stealing and abetment of crime. They pleaded not guilty to all three charges.Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Kuma Mensah told the court presided over by Mr Kwasi Boakye, that the complainant, Olivia Abbey, was a trader at Kwesimintsim and lived in the same house with Hannah Abbey, a witness while Augustina, a bread seller and Kwofie, unemployed, lived together at New Takoradi. He said on October 25, this year, while Olivia was bathing, Augustina entered her room while Augustina's husband Kwofie, stood some metres away from the door keeping watch to alert her if someone was coming into the house.Unfortunately for the couple, Hannah who had then gone out was returning to the house when she saw Kwofie from a distance. The prosecutor said Kwofie on seeing Hannah approaching the house, quickly alerted Augustina fo come out, but she could not respond swiftly to the signal as Hannah met her coming out of the room.He said when Hannah confronted her and asked her why she entered the room, she begun to stammer and attempted to escape.Chief Inspector Mensah said Hannah raised alarm which attracted nearby residents and the couple were arrested. He said the couple denied the offence in their caution statement as Augustina stated that she went to the house to collect her money from one Mehoasem who the police claim was not known in the house. After several interrogations, he said, Augustina admitted entering the corridor only to drink water.Source: The Spectator/Ghana
