The Ashanti Region police have appealed to the public to help them fight crime.
According to the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Patrick Timbillah, a stronger police-civilian relationship will better help in the war against crime.
Briefing the media in Kumasi Monday, he said the police have since January retrieved 23 short guns, 50 locally-manufactured and foreign pistols as well as five AK 47 riffles seized by criminals from personnel on duty.
He said the retrieval of those weapons could not have been possible without the support of the public.
DCOP Timbillah reminded Ghanaians that a reward system for informants was still in place and anybody who provides the police with “relevant information leading to successful arrests and prosecution of a case [will] attract amounts ranging from GHc1,000 and GHc20,000.”
He said modern policing depended on intelligence-led operations.
